EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR STAY AT THE KITELAGUNE KITE SCHOOL.

In order to plan your kitesurfing course and to make your stay at our kitesurfing center in Sicily as uncomplicated as possible, we already provide you with some information that might be useful for you. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Kitesurfing basically combines two sports. Steering a kite and riding a board on the water. The kite is steered by the bar, develops traction and pulls the rider on the board over the water. You can simply cruise in a relaxed manner. If you master the kite better, high jumps and various tricks are possible.

How long it takes to learn kitesurfing varies from person to person! Basically, however, you will learn the theory, safety basics and how to steer the kite within the first 4 course hours. After 6 to 8 hours on the water, you will usually be able to make your first launch attempts. Clear advantages have who already masters other board sports.

Kitesurfing has a high risk potential. Therefore, you quickly become a danger to yourself or others. Solid training and responsible handling can significantly reduce the risk. Attending a course at a licensed kite school is therefore a prerequisite for safe kitesurfing. Thereby you learn a safe handling of the kite, the correct assessment of different situations and a safe behavior in dangerous situations.

Actually everyone can learn kitesurfing. You should be able to swim and be physically fit. The minimum age for students at our kitesurfing school is 8 years, but it depends more on the weight than on the age (minimum weight of 35kg).

The spot at “Lo Stagnone” in Sicily is probably one of the best places to learn kitesurfing. Shallow water and optimal wind conditions for kitesurfing are the ideal conditions to get on the board quickly and safely. Our school is located at the northernmost point of the lagoon in the middle of the natural reserve, far away from mass tourism.

In general we have everything at the center that you need for a course. This includes wetsuits, neoprene shoes, harnesses, vests and helmets. You are also welcome to bring your own gear. In the summer, due to the temperatures, a lycra, swimming trunks and/or lycra leggings are sufficient. We also recommend sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen.

We believe that mineral sunscreens (with zinc oxide or titanium oxide) are the best choice. They are gentle on your health, very water resistant, protect you from dangerous UV rays and are gentle on the inhabitants of the lagoon. After all, the well-being of organisms in the water is of great concern to us!

For kitesurfers who want to start from our private spot, the following fees apply:

Daily fee: 5€
or
weekly fee: 25€

For this fee you are allowed to use our infrastructure. This includes parking, set-up area, pumps, deck chairs, changing room, toilet and fresh water shower. Non-kiters are allowed to use the infrastructure for free.

Camping is not explicitly allowed. If you want to stay with your Camper or Van on our private Ground you have to register at the Kiteschool Kitelagune before. The condition is that you do not leave any garbage and do not dispose of your chemical toilet in the wilderness and certainly not in the water. We do not like such behavior at all and will not tolerate it. We have a blackwater tank and you can dispose your chemical toilet in the right way. Always remember that you are in a natural reserve and it is a great luck that Kitesurfing is allowed here. We want to keep it that way.

Yes, there is such a license: the internationally recognized VDWS KITESURF LICENSE. You can get it for only 30€. We check your theoretical knowledge and your skills on the water. This license is the prerequisite to rent equipment at most kite schools or to start from the spots. It is a proof of competence, but not obligatory to kite by yourself.

In principle, anyone can rent equipment from us. Prerequisite is one of the internationally recognized kitesurfing licenses (VDWS, VÖWS, IKO). With this we just want to be sure that you are able to kitesurf autonomously and that you know all theoretical and practical rules of kitesurfing.

When you participate in a kitesurfing course you don’t have to worry about that. Our students are automatically insured against damage. If you have rented equipment, you will have to pay for the depreciation of the equipment caused by the damage. Optionally you can buy the damaged material from us. For this reason we recommend the VDWS SAFETY TOOL to all those who are not insured: A water sports insurance that also covers damage to rental equipment.

Unfortunately, there is no wind guarantee anywhere in the world. However, between us, the conditions in “Lo Stagnone” are already extremely good. Especially in the summer months the thermal wind from NW (Mistral) is very good for practising. For this reason we only conduct our training sessions when the conditions are really good. Annoying no-wind training is not part of our satisfaction concept.

Should you not be able to complete your course because the wind is not cooperating, we will issue you a transferable voucher. This does not apply to scheduled lessons that you did not attend or if the conditions during your stay would have allowed you to complete the course, but you were not there when the wind was blowing. Sometimes the wind forecasts are not 100% correct and on a supposed calm day we suddenly have good wind.

You do not have to. You are welcome to come to the KITELAGUNE KITESCHOOL and organize everything on the spot. However, it happens very often that our capacities are already completely exhausted for a certain period of time. In such cases, we are unfortunately unable to provide secure course places or the desired rental equipment to clients who have not booked in advance.

If you are unable to complete your course because the wind is not cooperating, we will issue you a transferable voucher. This does not apply to scheduled lessons that you did not attend or if the conditions during your stay would have allowed you to complete the course, but you were not there when the wind was blowing. Sometimes the wind forecasts are not 100% correct and on a supposed calm day we suddenly have good wind.

At the moment we do not offer a storage service. Due to the limited space at the spot it is not possible to store your own equipment with us. However, since you will probably be traveling in your own car or rental car in Sicily, we don’t see the need for a storage service.

As an official Duotone Kiteboarding Partner, KITELAGUNE KITESCHOOL offers the possibility to test the latest material. However, only if the material you would like to test is available and free. The test duration is maximum 15 minutes. If you want to test the material extensively, we recommend our equipment rental.

CLEANNESS – RULES OF MANNERS – THE GOOD TONE AMONG KITESURFERS

We attach great importance to keeping our spot in the middle of the natural reserve clean. Therefore, any kind of waste and cigarette butts belong in the specially provided waste containers. Chemical toilets can be emptied for a small fee in a special container. This is emptied by us regularly in accordance with the law. We have NO understanding for any other behavior!
